Katrina victims still need your help one year later
It was almost a year ago when Hurricane Katrina slammed into the Gulf Coast causing at least 1,836 deaths and hundreds of thousands of Americans to lose their homes. Victims are still trying to rebuild their lives. Below is a list of organizations that you can donate to. Even the smallest amount helps, so please donate.

Hands On Network
Habitat for Humanity
The American Red Cross
Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund
The Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation
The Mississippi Hurricane Recovery Fund
United Way - Greater New Orleans Area
Adopt-a-Home in Pearlington
Katrina's Angels
Katrina's Toybox

If you know of any other organizations that you think should be on this list, please add them in the comments section.

Bayou Liberty Relief serves as an operational base for gulf coast hurricane recovery volunteers by providing secure housing and nutritional meals, coordinating with other hurricane recovery and relief organizations that utilize volunteer services and engaging in direct community service in the greater New Orleans/Slidell area. We work directly with Residents in cleaning out their homes, mold abatement, rebuilding their homes and clearing debris from their yards. We also provide a respite for long-term volunteers (2 night respite, take a break, get refreshed and ready to continue working rather than burning out and going home).

Mercy Corps continues to respond to profound needs along the Gulf Coast. We're bolstering nonprofits, helping New Orleans neighborhoods plot their return and promoting cultural programs that support children's emotional recovery.

The Aspen Institute recently called Mercy Corps and colleague agencies "one bright spot" in an otherwise dim emergency response to the storm. Across Mississippi and Louisiana, we're supporting families and neighborhoods as they rebuild vital support networks and cultural activities.

As a Victim of the hurricane I want to thank you for making it a stepping point on your democratic strive for democratic rule, I lost everything I had, I went without food or water for weeks, but for you (the owners of this site) to try and turn our losses into a political talking point for your left wing cause is fucking pathetic.

eat shit.

You are welcome, make suer you tell the Righwing helping hands the same message...Oh yeah, I forgot there were none of those disgusting Rightwing wackjobs, except for those that made you recognize their church or faith based initiative. But, I do not wish to digress.
I hope we have helped.

Rebuild East Mississippi is a non-profit located in Meridian, Mississippi and covering Clarke, Lauderdale, Newton & Kemper counties. The are we cover is rural and very poor. We need help. All of the millions raised by the Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund are going to New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. We're farther north, but we still had homes damaged and destroyed by Katrana.
