As of Sunday, Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin told the press he had 37 of the 41 votes necessary to support a filibuster of Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito on Monday.

But 41 votes are needed to sustain a filibuster. Please contact your Senators and ask them to support the call for a filibuster. Today is your last chance! A cloture vote is expected at 4:30pm ET. If the vote passes, a full floor vote will follow at 11am ET on Tuesday.

C-Span.org has live video of the floor debate.

Here is a list of the phone numbers and email address of all U.S. Senators.

Reid says Democrats can't block Alito
Reid said today that the Democrats don't have enough votes to back Kerry's filibuster.

Via Reuters:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid admitted on Friday he and fellow Democrats lack the votes to block President George W. Bush's nomination of conservative appeals judge Samuel Alito to the U.S. Supreme Court.

"Everyone knows there is not enough votes to support a filibuster," Reid said, referring to the procedural roadblock that some Democrats said should be used to put off a vote on Alito.

The Nevada Democrat said, however, he would vote for such a measure to at least send a message of opposition to the nominee. That vote will come on Monday with final confirmation set for Tuesday.

41 votes are needed to sustain a filibuster. Please contact your Senators and ask them to support Senator Kerry's call for a filibuster. Here is a list of the phone numbers and email address of all U.S. Senators. We must let the Democrats in the Senate know that America supports Kerry's filibuster.

Christmas just isn't Christmas without Bing Crosby
I'm a sucker for any Christmas song sung by Bing Crosby - especially "White Christmas" and "I'll be Home for Christmas." Christmas just isn't Christmas without Bing Crosby.

Bing Crosby sings "White Christmas" (1966) -

Hey Ava - What's with the lack of updates?
You may have noticed that the front page's headline section hasn't been updated much lately. This is due to the unforunate fact that I broke my left hand this past week. I have a cast on which prevents me from using both hands to type. It's more than a little hard to work on headlines with one hand. Also, please don't be offended if I don't respond to emails quickly - I will try to respond to them as quickly as possible. I'm going to be taking it easy until the cast comes off and the hand heals(which the doctor said should take only 3 weeks), but I will be coming out with a new video before Christmas(I'm currently trying to work on it one-handed, lol). In the meantime check out the latest video and be sure pass it on.

Peace!

The UN; Out with PNAC, In With PNAC
With Bolton's resignation from the UN Ambassador post we look to see who may be in line to replace him. One name making the short list is Zalmay Khalilzad current Ambassador to Iraq. Khalilzad is yet another PNAC member ready to be re-manuevered to further the PNAC agenda. Cronyism? No. Imperialistic conspiracy? Yes.

Get on your phones to Congress today. Tell Congress We The People no longer accept nominations of PNAC members.

John Bolton resigns as ambassador to U.N.
Bush accepts resignation; envoy to step down when appointment ends.

Via MSNBC :

WASHINGTON - Unable to win Senate confirmation, U.N. Ambassador John Bolton will step down when his temporary appointment expires within weeks, the White House said Monday. Bolton’s nomination has languished in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for more than a year, blocked by Democrats and several Republicans. Sen. Lincoln Chafee, a moderate Republican who lost in the midterm elections Nov. 7 that swept Democrats to power in both houses of Congress, was adamantly opposed to Bolton. Critics have questioned Bolton’s brusque style and whether he could be an effective bureaucrat who could force reform at the U.N.
