Veterans Day

This video is a year old, but the message still applies today:

http://www.peacetakescourage.com/veterans.html

Howard Dean on Veterans Day:
Today, Americans are united in honoring the almost 27 million veterans of our country's Armed Forces. For generations, Americans of all backgrounds, from all across the country have answered the call to service. They and their families have made great sacrifices in defense of our freedoms, serving with honor and distinction. This year's commemoration, like others in recent years, takes on added significance, as our nation continues to ask so much of the brave men and women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. They have answered the call, displaying great skill and courage, and demonstrating a commitment to American that makes us all proud. We are all deeply indebted to them, and the brave soldiers who have served before them.

Review: Flags of Our Fathers

"Flags of Our Fathers" (directed by Clint Eastwood and produced by Steven Spielberg) is a film about the Battle of Iwo Jima and the notorious raising of the American flag that took place on that island. The movie is based on the book with the same title written by Jame Bradley, the son of John Bradly - one of the flag raisers. This movie is not another glorifying story of war, it's is the tragic story of the five Marines and Navy corpsman who raised an American flag on top of Mt. Suribachi during the grueling Battle of Iwo Jima. It is told from the perspective of one of those men and other veterans of the now infamous battle of World War II.

Sixteen Candles for Soldiers Photos
"Sixteen Candles for Soldiers" went really well. The lots of local media came out to cover it and Mother Jones Magazine sent a reporter down to cover it also. It was covered in the Montgomery Advertiser and the local news stations also did stories on it. We got our message across which was the most important part.

We went from 4pm to about 9pm and because it was so long people came and went but after counting all those who showed up we had about 100 come including an Iraq war Veteran. All the musicians were AWESOME and it really looked amazing at the State Capitol Building. We had a candle light vigil that included Ian Rhett singing the national anthem and us remembering the fallen soldiers by lighting candles in their honor.

I also recieved emails from people across the country saying that they were going to light candles Saturday night and place them on their front porches to also honor the fallen. Thanks so all those who came out and all the musicians who played. It really means a lot to me and to the peace movement. Thanks ya'll!

Sixteen Candles for Soldiers : This Saturday!!

Every day brave Americans are dying as a result of this Administration's actions. It's up to us to demand the truth and accountability. Join me THIS SATURDAY, October 21, 2006, at the State Capitol Steps in Montgomery, Alabama, and we'll show the Bush Administration what real support for our troops looks like. We will demand they get the benefits they deserve and that they be brought home from this war we were lead into by liars. We will protest and have a candle light vigil in honor of the fallen. There will be live music and speakers at "Sixteen Candles for Soldiers," so bring a friend or a whole crowd. If you are a musician or speaker who is interested in being part of Sixteen Candles for Solders please contact us. Sixteen Candles for Soldiers

Many teenagers turning 16 years old throw big "Sweet 16" parties. MTV has even created a TV program about the phenomenon of lavish parties. I want my 16th birthday to be different and make a difference rather than being just another "Sweet 16" party. That's why I'm throwing "Sixteen Candles for Soldiers." It's an event that is meant to honor and respect our troops by showing our support for them. We plan to demand they get the benefits they deserve and that they be brought home from this war we were lead into by liars. Every day brave Americans are dying as a result of this Administration's actions. It's up to us to demand the truth and accountability. Join me on October 21, 2006 at the State Capitol Steps in Montgomery, Alabama, and we'll show the Bush Administration what real support for our troops looks like.

Check out the newest PeaceTakesCourage video "Don't Shut Up - Stand Up." The Bush Administration tries every day to slander and silence those of us who dare to speak out against their criminal decisions. Let them know that we will not be silent and that we want our troops home.

Be sure to check out the new Peace Takes Courage video "Security." The video shows the failure of the Bush administration during the 9/11 attacks, and it also shows how the administration now uses the fear and emotion that 9/11 caused all of us to have. They use our fear, anger, and sadness to fuel their own personal interests. They used it to invade Iraq, takes away many of our civil liberties, win elections, and profit. This September 11th, we all must stand up and take our country back by demanding Congress hold this administration accountable. This country belongs to the citizens, and it's about time we remind those in power of that.

EDIT: I've uploaded the video onto YouTube now.

At least 1,836 people lost their lives and hundreds of thousands of Americans lost their homes. Peace Takes Courage has put together a list of organizations that are still working to help victims of the storm. Even the smallest amount helps, so please donate.

Please visit www.peacetakescourage.com/aid for information on how you can help Katrina victims.
