ALABAMA TEEN USES 16TH BIRTHDAY TO SHOW SUPPORT FOR AMERICAN TROOPS IN IRAQ.

(Montgomery, Alabama) – An Alabama girl is planning to use her sixteenth birthday to bring awareness to the public about the ongoing war in Iraq. Instead of having a “Sweet Sixteen ” party, Ava Lowery is throwing “Sixteen Candles for Soldiers” which she says is an event to show support for the troops while also criticizing the mistakes of the Bush Administration.

Lowery is a teenage peace activist from Alabama who has long been an outspoken critic of the war in Iraq. Through videos she has been producing for her website peacetakescourage.com, Ava shows the multidimensional tragedy of the Iraq war- losses of brave young soldiers to American families, and loss of innocent civilians in Iraq. Though she is a critic of the war and the Bush Administration, Lowery is a strong supporter of the troops, and even has family members in the military that have been to Iraq. “I cannot imagine a better way to spend my sixteenth birthday than demanding our brave troops be brought home,” says Lowery.

“Sixteen Candles for Soldiers”, which will include a protest and candlelight vigil, is scheduled to be held at the Alabama State Capitol steps on October 21, 2006 beginning at 4PM. The Alabama State Capitol is located on 600 Dexter Avenue in Montgomery, Alabama. Lowery says they will also have live music and speakers at the event.
